Bramhill Sports

In 1915 the Bramhills formed a hardball team that played for 15 years in a bush clearing at the Dan Kaufman farm against teams from Wallace Township and Fordwich. Tournaments would last two or three days. Some of the players were: Clendon Bramhill, Dick Bramhill, Mathew Bramhill, Ed Smart, Bert Reid, Jack Nairn, Mike Reid, Cecil Phillipson, Arthur Phillipson and Charles Shewan.

Bramhill hockey also got into gear around 1915, when the country boys played the Palmerston Senior team and came out victorious. Between 1939 and 1946, the Bramhill Brothers Chopping Mill had a hockey team that played in the Palmerston Recreation League. Around 1950 the Palmerston Regents hockey team, which included many Minto players, began a decade of participation in the Inter-City League. These games attracted large crowds and there was a healthy rivalry among the teams. Fans got good value for their 25-cent admission fee, including the odd scuffle and occasional fisticuffs. Carl Seiler always claimed he made money by going to the games because for 25 cents he got 50 cents worth of fun.

Bramhill community members are still active in various league sports, including pioneer descendant Laverne Bramhill who, at the age of 60, played hockey along with his sons in an organized church league.
