Richard (Dick) Bramhill

Richard Bramhill was born on August 17, 1893, near Palmerston, Minto Township, Ontario. Richard Bramhill married Gertrude C. Bridge on September 13, 1916, in Palmerston, Ontario. They farmed for many years on Concession 9 of Wallace Township then built a new home on the 10th Line of Wallace at Highway 23 on the west end of Palmerston. They had no children although Aunt Gertie had several miscarriages (4).

For many years he worked as a carpenter and handy man helping to build homes and businesses in the area. Uncle Dick helped his brother Clendon build the Farm Implement facility known as Bramhill Service Center in 1950/51 on Highway 23 west of the Town of Palmerston. In 1955 helped build the house that Clendon’s daughter Ruby lived in next to Bramhill Service Center. In the early 1960’s he again helped Clendon build the facilities for Bramhill Seeds Ltd. now operated by Leonard Bramhill.

Several years after Aunt Gertie’s death Uncle Dick Bramhill married Ethel Bridge Vines on May 21, 1974. They later separated and she moved to an apartment in Listowel where she was found dead on December 31, 1979.

Uncle Dick had suffered from Bleeding Ulcers for several years. He passed away on September 30, 1985 in Palmerston at the age of 92 years.
