Chapter 3.3.9

John Raymond Goodwin

By Irene Young

The youngest child of John Goodwin and Elizabeth Bramhill. Although named John Raymond, he was only known as Raymond by his family and friends.

He was born 9 December 1893 at Palmerston. Died 19 March 1948 at Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.

Raymond married Karen  (Carrie) Erickson, (no date or place of marriage). She was born 3 July 1902 in Minnesota, USA, and died 5 May 1972 at Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan

They had no family of their own, but adopted a son

            1. Leslie Wayne Goodwin no birth date, he died in 1968. (No other information)

Raymond came from Ontario in 1913 to Colgate, Saskatchewan, where his brother Eli had previously came from Ontario and was now established on his homestead. Raymond, like other young men, was in search of the free Land Grants the government was making available.  He filed a homestead near the town of McCord, Saskatchewan, with these land numbers - NE Quarter, Section 20, Township 4, Range 7, West of the 3rd Meridian.

It would seem that he never proved up the homestead land, as the following year of 1914 he was living in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Not long after taking up residence in the city of Moose Jaw, he was employed by the Canadian Pacific Railway, as a passenger Trainman.  Raymond continued to work for the CPR up until the time of his death.

Raymond died 19 March 1948, his funeral was held 22 March 1848, but the burial did not take place until 14 April 1948. He is buried at Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan in Rosedale cemetery

After Raymond’s death, his wife Carrie married Harvey Hanson.

There is no known information on his adopted son Wayne, if he married, or where he lived.
