Chapter 5.0
Thomas Bramhill
By Dorothy Spick

Thomas's parents were Matthew and Elizabeth Butterfield. Thomas was the third son and was born January 30, 1822 in Epworth, Lincolnshire, England. He married Jeanette Miller Henderson. Thomas was from Epworth, Janet was a Scot and they were married in Lanarkshire, Scotland on April 16, 1848. Thomas was a Farmer and Potato Dealer in Epworth. Thomas died on July 29, 1894 in Epworth, Lincolnshire at the age of 72.

Children of Thomas Bramhill and Jeanette Henderson are:

i. Ann Bramhill, b. 1849, Scotland.
ii. Elizabeth Bramhill, b. 1851, Scotland. (Note Elizabeth Bramhill's birth date may be 1852.)
iii. George Bramhill, b. 1853.
iv. George Henderson Bramhill, b. 1856, Epworth, Lincolnshire.
v. Alfred Bramhill, b. 1857, Epworth, Lincolnshire.
vi. Ada Jane Bramhill, b. August 22, 1860, Epworth, Lincolnshire, England; d. February 5, 1911, Epworth, Lincolnshire, England.
Their youngest daughter was Ada Jane Bramhill, born on August 22, 1860 in Epworth. Ada Jane was in service in Batley when she met and married Thomas Robinson on October 9, 1895. They both belonged to the Primitive Methodists in Batley. Sadly Ada died in Street, Somerset, from influenza on February 5, 1911, aged 51, so I never knew my grandmother. She is buried in the Street municipal cemetery. I never discovered why they chose to go to live in Street but my grandfather ran a General Store there. After Ada's death, the family returned to Yorkshire.

My father was Percy Bramhill Robinson, the eldest child of Ada Jane Bramhill and Thomas Robinson. He was born in Batley, Yorkshire in 1897. Percy married Frances Flower on November 14, 1931 in Arkholme. Frances was born on July 3, 1898 and passed away on June 22, 1975 in Colchester, England.

My father died at the age of 97 on January 9, 1994. Though he died in Nottinghamshire, he spent most of his life in Colchester, where he was manager of a Nursery. He spent a few years as Head Gardener at Cumberland Lodge, in Windsor Great Park, which is where both my sister and I, Dorothy Robinson, were born.

Incidentally, I was interested to read of the hockey playing Canadian Bramhills. I was a keen player myself, playing for club and county. I was a Physical Education teacher in my younger and fitter days. My father was also a keen sportsman, especially enjoyed cricket.

I live with my husband in a small village in Nottinghamshire, about an hour and a half drive away from Epworth.

I hope to be there at the Reunion next year, and look forward to meeting you all.

Best wishes,
Dorothy Spick
