Hannah's Sister-in-Law Gertrude Bramhill Fishwick

        Gertrude Bramhill, born April 18, 1876 in Rotherham, Yorkshire, England, was the older sister of Thomas William Bramhill. Gertrude married Hannah's brother Edmond Fishick. Gertrude and her husband, Edmond (Ted) Fishwick, (My Grandmother's Brother) were both in the Salvation Army. 

            Edmund was killed in the sinking of the Empress of Ireland on May 29, 1914. The ship sank in the St. Lawerence River. It didn't even make it to the ocean. More people died on this ship than on the Titanic (1922). I think she was also drowned but haven't verified it yet. The strange thing about this is that they wanted my Grandmother and Grandfather to go with them. They used the money to buy a house instead. Thank God.

             I am the Great Great Grandson of Ted and Gertrude Fishwick.  Annie Fishwick (married to Walter DeCarteret) is my Grandmother. I wanted to pass along some additional information on how Ted died.

            He was a passenger on the Empress of Ireland on May 30, 1914 when it was struck by the Norwegian collier Storstad and sank almost immediately.  The story that my Grand Mother told was that Ted's compartment was very close to the point of impact and he therefore had no opportunity to escape.  His body was never recovered.  The following link will provide you with more information on the Empress of Ireland.

He came to U.S. in 1904 at the age of 14. There was mention if I remember correctly that a William Bramhill lived with them for awhile but went back to England. I don't know much else.
