Dorothy Bramhill Pugh
By Dorothy (Bramhill) Pugh

Dorothy Devona Bramhill, second daughter of Clendon and Violet Bramhill, was born on January 1, 1922 at the family home in Minto Township near Palmerston.

We moved to Palmerston in 1943. I worked in Fergus when the war was on until the spring of 1944. I worked in the office for my father at Bramhill Brothers Feed Mill until the fall of 1945 when I moved to Toronto. I attended Toronto Bible School (the forerunner of Eastern Pentecostal Bible College) and graduated there in 1945.

A young minister by the name of Donald T. Pugh was sent to Palmerston in the fall of 1947 as pastor of a new work that today is known as The Palmerston Evangelical Missionary Church. Donald Thomas Pugh, son of Fred Pugh and Fannie Raymer, was born on March 15, 1922 in Stouffville, Ontario. He stated that he preached to six people the first Sunday morning he was in Palmerston. He walked out into the countryside to visit many homes over the first several months because he didn't have a car. We were married in my parents' home by my uncle, a Salvation Army officer, in October 1948. During those years, pastor's families moved in the fall, not the summer, so the fall of 1949 we were moved to Aylmer.

My mother, Violet Bramhill (Mrs. Clendon Bramhill) was a very faithful attendee and supporter from the very beginning of the Palmerston Evangelical Missionary Church, then known as the United Missionary Church. Because of the prayerful Christian life of my mother, my Dad, Clendon Bramhill, became a Christian at the age of ninety-one, about two months before he passed to his eternal reward. Others also can testify to her influence in their decisions for Christ.

Don and I served many different pastorates during our ministry – most were in the Missionary Church. We served in Palmerston, Aylmer, Manitoulin Island, Port Elgin, and Plattsville.

Our son David Paul was born on January 6, 1950 in Palmerston. We moved to Manitoulin Island in 1952 where Donald Roy Junior was born on October 8, 1952 and our daughter Barbara Ann was born on December 5, 1956.

We moved to Port Elgin in 1957 where we pastored the Port Elgin and Paisley churches. In 1961 we moved to Plattsville where we lived for nine years and in 1970 we moved to Altona, Ontario. We moved back to the Plattsville Church in 1976 until 1982 when we moved to Palmerston and bought a new mobile home through Bernice and Bill Marriner.

I worked for Roy and Walter at Bramhill Service Center until I retired.

Don was preaching at Leamington United Church in 1989. While on a holiday at Paul and Joan’s cottage in August 1989 he passed away suddenly.

In 1994 I bought a condo in Palmerston where I still live. I have a home in Florida where I have been blessed to be able to spend a few months each of past several winters.

Their children:
                David Paul
                Donald Roy
                Barbara Ann
