John Roy Bramhill
By Marlyn Bramhill

John Roy Bramhill was born on March 4, 1933 on the second of Minto Township at the home farm. He was the seventh child of Clendon and Violet Bramhill. Roy married Marlyn Anne Loos on May 15, 1954 in the Harriston United Church. Marlyn was born in Cargill, Ontario on February 7, 1936, and the daughter of Edwin Loos and Verna Seegmiller. Roy asked me if I would go to his church as I was brought up in another denomination. That was fine with me. The first Sunday we went to church, Roy told me I had too much lipstick!

We lived in Palmerston for about a year and a half, then Pop Bramhill bought a house in town and had it moved out to the property on the edge of town. Walter and Ruby Quanz moved into it, and Roy and I moved into the apartment above the garage beside Roy's Mom and Dad in February 1956, and we lived there for thirty-eight years. There was only a hallway between our apartments, also just one phone for many years.

Our son, David, was born March 5,1956, (on Grandpa Bramhill’s birthday) in the Palmerston and District Hospital. Dianne was born on December 16, 1958 also in the Palmerston Hospital on her cousin Mildred (Miller) Robb’s birthday. David and Dianne both live in Palmerston.

David is married to Nancy (Harrison) Bramhill. They have three children – Adam, Amy and Alyse.

Dianne married Floyd Metzger. They have two children – Jeremy and Jennifer.

In 1951 Roy’s father, Clendon Bramhill, built a Farm Implement Sales and Service business called Bramhill Service Center. Roy and Walter took over the business in 1965 and made it one of the largest farm implement dealerships in Ontario. Roy was also involved in the Palmerston Legion helping in many community events.

Roy and I lived above the garage until we retired in 1992 after Roy and Walter sold Bramhill Service Centre. We then moved to Palmerston and purchased a house at Whites Road, which allows us to be close to our family. Roy continues to be active in the town doing snow removal and I am still involved in our church.

We have lots of good memories living above the garage. Roy’s mother was a great inspiration to me and my faith in God. I was not always thankful but today I sure am. May the Bramhill name continue ‘till the Lord calls us all home.
