Percy Clendon Bramhill

Percy Clendon Bramhill is the youngest son of Violet and Clendon Bramhill. He was born on April 11, 1939 on the 2nd of Minto farm of his grandfather Mathew Bramhill. That same year the Bramhill Brothers started their Chopping Mill.

In the fall of 1943 they moved to Palmerston, into the Quenelle House with their cow in tow… they lived there a year until they moved to the Cooper House in 1944. This five-bedroom home, which was purchased for $2850., was where Percy, Ruby, Roy and their parents Clendon and Violet resided until it was sold in 1951.

A proud moment for Percy was when he received his first bike at age 6 from Dorothy of Fergus. When he was 12 years of age they moved into the Service Centre. From there he walked 1.5miles to school on the Whites Road with his brother Roy. Annie Bramhill was their teacher for their grades 1-6. Percy attended Palmerston Public School for grade 7 followed by U.S.S. # 14 Wallace School, 2 miles away, for grade 8.

In 1955 Percy took the bus to Norwell High School for grades 9 and 10. At age 16 he quit school to drive a gas truck for the next year. In 1956 Percy worked for the Elmira Furniture Company as a delivery staff.

In 1957 at age 18 Percy started with the Harriston Royal Bank under the supervision of Carol Tupper, Manager. Then he starting working in Beamsville for the Royal Bank as a teller and the following year he worked in Toronto also as a teller. Percy then became the Accountant for the Erin Branch in 1960.

On May 21st of 1960, Percy married Velma Harper at the Bethel United Church on the 11th Concession of Arthur Township. They lived in a rented apartment in Erin, Ontario. On January 16th, 1961 Cheryl Lynn Bramhill was born at the Guelph General Hospital. Percy then moved his family to the Halmond Apartments on Highway #7 of Woodbridge where he was the Assistant Accountant for the Woodbridge Royal Bank branch.

On May 22, 1962, Patricia Ann Bramhill was born in the Brampton Memorial Hospital. In the fall of 1962 Percy moved his family to Kincardine where he become the Accountant of the Royal Bank. His family resided in an apartment on the Main Street above the Forbes Grocery Store. Percy and Velma bought a lot across from the boiler at Boiler Beach, where they built their first home on the waterfront property of Lake Huron south of Kincardine. In later years this became their family cottage.

In September 1964 Percy was transferred to Newbury where he accepted his first Managerial position for the Royal Bank of Canada. Jacqueline Marie Bramhill was born in the Chatham Hospital on May 17th 1965. They rented a house until they purchased their first home in 1968. It was a 3-bedroom bungalow on Haggerty Road, Newbury for $15,000. Cheryl and Pat started public school in a two-room schoolhouse that held grades 1-8.

In 1970 Percy was transferred to Cobourg, Ontario. The family rented a three-story house at 76 Orange Street. The girls attended Thomas Gillbard Public School. Cheryl in grade 3 and Pat in grade 2. On June 15, 1974 they bought their second house - a bungalow with a pool on Cornish Hollow Road, which was on a 100 x 150ft lot for $43,000.00. Velma drove the girls to their public school in town every day so the girls could finish school with their friends.

Percy was transferred into the Inspection Department for four years with the Royal Bank in 1976. They bought their third home at 1682 Wembury Road, Mississauga on March 24, 1976, to where the furniture was moved. Velma and the girls and the dog Bingo stayed behind and lived in the small RV in the local campground for the rest of the winter so the girls could finish their school year with their friends. Velma obtained employment in Oakville and started June 1st of that year. Their cousin Barbara Pugh came and lived with the girls in the RV while they finished their school year at the end of June, at which time the girls moved to Mississauga. Cheryl started grade 10, Pat started grade 9 at Lorne Park Secondary School and Jackie started grade 6 at Hillcrest Public School in Mississauga.

In 1979 Percy was transferred to Smithville, Ontario to Killin St. The girls chose to finish school at Lorne Park Secondary School so Velma rented an apartment on Lakeshore Road in Mississauga to make that happen.

The girls were evacuated during a major evacuation of Mississauga when a gas leak from a train derailment caused a huge explosion and a fire. They brought their friends to stay with Percy in Smithville for that week. Cheryl and Pat finished Lorne Park with Dental Assistants certificates. Jackie followed her mother Velma into Civil Services working at Syl Apps Youth Centre, Oakville.

In 1981 Percy moved back to 1192 Fleet Street, Mississauga. Then on June 23, 1984 Cheryl and Rick Millar and Pat and David Binnie were married at the Port Credit Presbyterian Church. Cheryl and Rick were later divorced. Pat worked for Doctor Gorchinski (dentist) in Port Credit until 1998 when she retired to work with her husband David Binnie in their heating and air-conditioning business. Cheryl worked in office positions until finding her calling as a foster parent.

Percy and Velma purchased a 49-acre farm at R.R. #5 Waterford in September of 1986. Velma still resides there following their divorce in 1990. Cheryl met Robert Mulder while out visiting the farm. They were together for six years and have a son Joshua Erin Robert Mulder-Bramhill born November 14, 1989 in the Mississauga General Hospital while they resided in Erin Mills.

In 1987 Percy was working at the Queensway and Kipling Royal Bank as the Branch Manager, where the following year he became the Branch Manager of the Etobicoke South Business Centre.

On July 8 1989 Jackie married Gary Adams at the St. George United Church. Together they have two sons Kurtis George Adams born at Oakville Trafalgar Hospital June 4 1990 and Kyle Clendon Adams who was born August 2, 1991 also at the Oakville Trafalgar Hospital. They currently reside in Oakville, Ontario. Jackie and Gary divorced in 1997.

On July 18, 1992, Percy married Rhoda Maxine Nixon, daughter of Bert Nixon and Violet Kew. Rhoda was born on December 17, 1935 in Blanchard, Ontario. Percy and Rhoda were married at the St. Luke’s United Church in Cambridge, Ontario. They currently reside in Cambridge. Percy at the time was the Senior Account Manager for Special Loans in Etobicoke, where he officially retired from on April 30, 1994.
 

Pat and Dave Binnie had their first son Mathew George Binnie on March 19, 1993 at Oakville Trafalgar Hospital and their second son Ryan David Clendon Binnie on May 15 1997. They currently reside in Oakville, Ontario. All three girls currently live a block apart from each other, with their sons all attending the local school together.

Percy feels his legacy is his three daughters and their community oriented lives they lead…
